Cuffing Season: The period during the colder months where finding a significant other is suddenly a lot more appealing so you have someone to cuddle with, bake cookies with, spoil etc.

Catfish: When a person lures someone into a relationship by pretending to be someone else online, steals photos from strangers, and sometimes even creates multiple personas to make their stories more believable

“Sliding into DMs”: When you direct message someone on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with the hopes of acquiring their phone number

Cyber Stalking: When you go to extreme lengths to find someone you’re interested in on social media, going way back in someone’s Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter history, sometimes mistakenly liking something from 3 years ago and immediately wishing there was a back button for real life

Gaslighting: A subtle form of emotional abuse; they may constantly need to be right and/or tell you that you’re too sensitive, making you may feel crazy and like you’re the bad significant other

Netflix and Chill: When you invite someone over and there’s the implication that you won’t actually be watching that new series or movie you’ve been talking about

“A Thing”: When you’re in a romantic relationship that’s not quite official but not exactly casual

Define the Relationship (DTR): When you and the person you have a thing with have what was previously known as “The Talk” about what you’re actually doing together

Talking: When two people like each other a lot and have established that they like each other (may have even said they’re solely interested in the person they’re talking to), but they aren’t technically “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” yet but they don’t flirt/date other people; considered “a thing” and will eventually need to DTR

Insta-ficial: When you post the first picture of you and your significant other on Instagram or Snapchat, letting the world know you’re official
