Spotlight: 2020 and 2021

The year 2020 was a difficult year for all of us as we were forced to adapt to life in a pandemic. As we start a new year students were asked to reflect on 2020 and identify something positive that came about as a result of this turbulent year. They were then asked to consider the year ahead. Here are some of the responses:

What’s one positive part of the year 2020?

“The way that people have persisted in forming their communities. Whether it was having holiday parties over Zoom or finding ways to be together while being safe, people have found new ways to adapt to our situation and still be there for each other during a difficult time.” -Robin Thatcher, Grade 12

“I think having to adapt and react to new situations, like quarantining, online school, and politics, made everyone learn more about themselves and other people.” -MacKenzie Smith, Grade 12

“I had more time to focus on myself and things I enjoy.” – Owen Kennedy, Grade 11

“The Black Lives Matter movements we saw this summer and the conversations around racism that began across the country.” -Tacia Mazimpake

We got to really spend time with our family and pets that are at home. -Kyri Meuse, Grade 9

What are you looking forward to the most in 2021?

“I know it is basic, but I really am looking forward to a COVID vaccine. I have been being very strict with COVID safety because my family is very high risk, so it will be nice to be able to do things and see people again.” -Owen Kennedy, Grade 11

“I’m looking forward to our lives starting to go back to normal, and being able to see my family. Also going back to school and seeing all of my friends.” -Amelia Smith, Grade 9

“Hopefully going into the high school. I’ve been wishing for that most because it’s my first year and it isn’t ideal to start out in my own house.” – Eleanor Yates, Grade 9

“Graduating and moving into my top choice of colleges and having a fresh start in college.” – Meghan Pinter, Grade 12

A new start, Alex Cunningham, Grade 11
